How do the cops know who shot someone if there was no gun, foot prints, finger prints, nothing. Just a empty bullet shell.

1- Most shootings have a motive and opportunity, that is where you start.
2- Shell casings can be matched and traced by ballistics experts to the location of purchase etc.
3- Witnesses
4- Interviews and confessions.

There is no perfect crime, just imperfect investigations.

Trace the bullet shell to the gun where it was fired. When the gun is already identified, trace the owner through the files. When the owner was identified, trace who fired the gun using the bullet.

Ammunition batch numbers, the type of gun it fits, the number and demographic of the people that own that sort of gun, motive, opportunity, contacts, debts, recent withdrawls etc. etc. etc.

hmmm....they could do alot of things with that one shell. check for what type of gun that shell fits. then search what dates that gun type was bought. hell idk lol
