The US Congress years ago created their own retirement plan. This plan is not the screwed up Social Security system we peons are supposed to be getting. Their plan provides 100% of their salaries, very generous medical benefits, to name a few, upon their retirement until they die. And when they die, their spouses continue to receive these same benefits. And they contribute NOTHING to these plans financially while they are "working" in office; it is all paid for by their constituents, the lowly US taxpayer. And yet, they continue to stick the rest of us with a Social Security system that they have plundered for uses other than what it was intended for, and they refuse to do the hard work necessary to clean it up. Instead, you can bet your next paycheck that their eventual "fix" will include higher taxes, reduced benefits and and a higher age of retirement. But you also bet that they will not touch their own plan, unless they do so to fatten it up even more.

Amen brother. They create a Ponzi scheme for the little people, one they can't opt out of, yet set up their own sweet deal. And yet untold millions of people think politicians are the ticket to a better life. Go figure.

Do I read the word 'revolution' in between those lines?
I remember during the 2004 Presidential debates, John Kerry said he 'wanted all Americans to have the same health care benefits' that they have in DC. I wanted to reach thru the TV and knock the crap out of that SOB. Our taxes pay for all their health care and retirement (and drugs and whores). If we didn't have the government stealing our money, we could afford healthcare, and make a nice little nest egg for our own retirement.
It is time for a change, but how do we do it? I'm not saying we should storm DC and start knocking those greedy farts to their knees (although I'd love to take a swing at some of them), but we need better people to vote for.

why, oh why do people STILL keep falling for this ridiculous hoax? i agree that congress needs to do some HARD work to 'fix' , replace, or abolish the social security system and get the nation's fiscal books in order, but posting hoaxes like the one above does nothing to help inform the debate...pt barnum was right!

Hey, lets all write to our legislators, and demand the same retirement plan and health care plan they have. Why don't we have the same choice that they have?
