careful the windshield is glass and the mirrors might be plastic. Rubbing alcohol on the windshield . It will remove all the oil containment's off it .I use regular car cleaner wax to do the rest ,then clean it with Windex

acid go to a car detailing shop and ask to purchase or if they will acid the water spots on your windows I worked for a dealership and this is what we used on all badly waterspotted windows apply the acid to the window and use something like an sos pad make sure you wear gloves or you will burn your hands

Ok, use (000 steel wool) with soap and water, keep the steel wool wet the whole time you are using it.
I have used it many, many times to clean glass with perfect results and not a scratch.

all the answers so far might work depending on what minerals are in the hard water, you could use comix cleaner or ajax with water and rinse well, or a fine buffing compound

A rag, some white toothpaste and rub. then rinse well and polish the glass.

try a mix of white vinegar and water... half and half and scrub with an old towel... dry with a towel also
