You will not beable to do this because of the USB connection you are using. If you were connected to the modem/router using ethernet you could network the computers together and share the printer as well as files.

First you have to network the laptop with the desktop, so the best way to do that is to either get a router that you can plug the desktop into, which is the better of the 2 methods or to set up your computers as an ad-hoc network (which isn't always the best because it will only support two computers). Anyway, the best thing to do if you have windows xp or later is to just run the network setup wizard and select the option to set up a home or small office network. It will walk you through the steps. Make sure that you tell it when prompted which computer connects directly to the internet and which one will be connecting through the other computer to get to the internet. After your network is set up and your computers can successfully communicate with one another (if you open view workgroup computers, you should see both computers listed), you then need to add File and Printer Sharing. The easiest way to do that is to right click on the network connection that you are using (most likely it will be called "wireless network connection") and then select properties. See if file and printer sharing is listed under the general tab. If not click install then service, then microsoft, then file and printer sharing. Once that is done, go to control panel then printers (or printers and other hardware in xp category view) and go down to the printer that you want to share on the network. Right click on it, select properties, select the "sharing" tab and then click the radio button that says share this printer as. You will then be prompted to name that printer just as you name each computer on your network. Hope that helps.

Sos guy is correct. If you do not have a network setup. the easiest and more stable way to connect is using a wireless print server. Takes less time to set up and less hassles if something happens. You will also have the printer available at all times. If it is networked through a computer that computer has to stay on for you to print to it.

Run network setup wizard to setup the network then on the computer that has the printer installed go to control panel and find the printer and set it shared.

You can do this through Windows - but I have found the best way to print wirelessly is with a wireless print server. I saw them at Fry's today for $50. Follow the included directions of giving your printer a static (permanent) IP address.
