Could you talk him into using Elsa as a middle name? Or could you name your baby using the grandmothers middle name instead of her first name? If all else fails, pick out out a really nice middle name the baby can use when she is older and pray really hard for a boy.

Elsa is a great name!
( It's *old* like Emma ... Emma was *old* until a few years ago... my daughter is 10 and when I said I was naming her Emma , people BEGGED me not to.. now it's one of the top 10 names!! so I wouldn't be worried about that part of it)
I would say let him use the name ~ here are a few suggestions with Elsa as the first name :
Elsa Marie
Elsa Jane
Elsa Leigh
Elsa Mae
Elsa Angelina
Elsa Keeley
Elsa Cathleen
Elsa Danielle
Elsa Dawn
Elsa Mackenzie
and even tho Elsa is a *form* of Elizabeth, I like
Elsa Elizabeth ( and there are LOTS of nicknames you can use from that if you dont want to call her Elsa)

Would daddy be willing to use it as a middle name ??
~ Catherine Elsa, Jillian Elsa, Johannah Elsa,

I'm not really a big fan.
I think if you don't really like it you should try to compromise. Perhaps have it as a middle name or use a varient or similar name so that your still honouring his grandmother but with a name you both like.
Perhaps:
Elle
Ella
Ellenor
Elisa
Elisabeth/Elizabeth
The name Elsa is actually a short form of Elisabeth so maybe if you prefer that, Elsa could be a nickname?

Well....Elsa to me sounds like an older lady ( 2 of my older hispanic aunts are named Elsa). What you can do in order to keep the peace in your home is to give her a cute middle name and call her by her middle name. Or give her a cute nickname (Not like buttons or anything weird but something that can be transitional to teenage hood). Honestly, Elsa is not a bad name. Maybe you can bend the rule a bit and let out the "fake" tears and hope for another name...Lol !!
(Believe me..........It worked for me :-)
But honestly, once you have the baby in your arms and your able to actually look into your baby's eyes...Nothing else will matter.

Best of luck !!!

Elsa isn't that bad. However, it is a very unusual name and she may be teased in school about it.

What if you named her Elisa instead?

Or you could always use Elsa as a middle name. This way your daughter would still be named after your husband's grandmother. Is there another member of the family you would like to honor? Or is there a different name you would like to use for the first name?

I know a woman who named her daughter Johnna Cecilia-- Johnna after her husband Johnny and Cecilia after her great-grandmother Cecil.

You should be happy with the name whatever you choose. A cousin of mine constantly discusses changing her now 3-year-old daughter's name because she feels she was "forced" to name her what she did.

Good luck! I hope you and your husband choose the perfect name for your little one!

Respect your husband and let him name your duaghter after his Grandmother. After all you named the first child. Ellie and Elsie are very poular nicknames. Elsa is a pretty enough name on its own though as old fashioned names are coming back big. Where do ou think Ella came from? It actually is pretty fashion forward!

P.S I named my daughter Ella, before I knew it was popular. I love Elsie!

Elsa is one of my favorite names. My sister used it before I did, so I didn't get to have an Elsa, but I have it in my niece.
She is so beautiful and the name suits her very well. She has a bubbly personality. She Bright and kind.. If you knew my niece you would love the name.

I really like the name Elsa, I think it's cute. It makes me think of a little Swedish girls in pigtails.

But, if you really don't like it, maybe you come up with some kind of compromise? Maybe call here Elisa or Elisabeth, or you could use it as a middle name.
