That is part of the process. I know of someone who had a perfect SAT score and grades last year who didn't get into the college of his choice. Realize that this often works out for the best. He went to another really good school and is perfectly happy there. And if the University of Chicago is still a dream, you can apply there again for graduate school later on.

If you look at the percent of kids admitted, UChicago does not look quite as competitive as the other elite schools. But that is deceptive. UChicago kids "self-select" to a much greater extent than applicants to other schools.

At UChicago the workload is very hard and everyone is expected to do a huge amount of work without complaining. The teachers grade very strictly. For instance, you would definitely get a failing grade for any writing in which you misspelled 'going to' as 'gona' or 'and' as 'ang' or 'competitive' as 'copetative.'

It is not just getting in, you have to be able to handle a very tough work load. So unless you were just kidding around with your spelling, you better look somewhere else.

Chicago is a really hard shcool to get into, try to do something that sets you apart, like follow your 'passion'. And make sure you write good essays. The focal point of the application was (they since changed it, i'm not sure how it is now) the 'uncommon essays' so try to write something creative. Start early on your essays because that's what will get you in, i wish i had listened when people told me that before i applied
