I believe there is, it just has not been discovered or invented yet.

Physicists say it is impossible. However if you grant me the opinion that a shadow is something, then the shadow of the earth sweeping around the sun in its annual orbit and extending into infinity (?) somewhere out there points on its non substance exceeds the speed of light in an orbit centered on the sun.

Edit: It should be about 1.43 x 10^14 cm radius from the sun.

I remember one Star Trek show where they passed through a portal that put them billions of lightyears away from their other location. There was a similar story in recent years on tv, Stargate, a scifi action show.

I don't know if dimensional travel is possible. But, that would seem faster than speed of light.

The other idea would be to find out the secrets of Yoga. They say on the level of Dhyana you can travel to other planets without spaceship.

Dhyana is one level of the Astanga Yoga practice. But, Dhyana is not the highest stage. The highest stage is Samadhi or the trance of Bhakti.

There is also mention of travelling at the speed of the mind?
"Modern scientists have invented airships which are material, and the yogis make a still finer material attempt to travel by mindships. The yogis can reach any distant place very quickly with the help of mindships. "

What about travelling at the speed of the intelligence?

My opinions in this area are non-specialist, I have studied physics somewhat.

It is difficult to talk about velocities at tiny atomic levels, as with the distances between subatomic particles.

But consider that when a photon travels around the sun its path is bent because it interacts with gravitons. I don't know the mechanics of what is going on at that level.

My guess is that if it is possible to discover the equations unifying all the forces, one of the assumptions will yet be that nothing can go faster than approximately 186,291.49 miles per second ( c ).

Perhaps if time could be stoped somehow.

I don't know.

Without being harsh or mean does ANSWERS not have some restrictions to members under the age of 10?

Computer users with questions that are important to them usually get interesting and serious reples, I among them.

But then we get a member called MAT B who asks if Mach 6 speed (that is 6 times the speed of sound or 4568 mph) is not faster than light which my 6 year old grandson says is MILLLIONS OF MILES PER HOUR).

Actually the speed of light as is taught early in elementary school is 670 million mph.

It is remarkable that any kid would confuse the spped of SOUND with the speed of LIGHT !

In the labs, they have slowed light down to 38 MPH and even frozen it for a moment in time, and in other experiment, the effects of a beam of light traveled at six time its normal speed. Maybe the rule is still the speed of light can not be exceeded, but we are finding ways to bend the rules (and the spaces there in). Maybe be cannot travel any faster, but we may be able to compress the space in between, or even bypass it all together.

We are at the infancies or quantum realities, where music is played on cosmic strings, and I swear that Einstein is out there leading the orchestra.

I'm sure there are many things beyond the capacity of our human instruments to detect. It's possible some of these go faster than light. I don't see the point, however in believing in things that can't be proven. That leads to bogus religions and the kind of stuff going on in Iraq right now.

I think it's perfectly healthy to imagine or suspect. Unfounded belief can be a dangerous weapon.

Why would you believe that with absolutely no evidence to support that?

I'm not suggesting that we will never learn anything in science that disproves the model of what we now know of the universe, but why just make things up and then say we believe?

We may as well say that if we jump backwards fast enough, we turn into unicorns.

Note to "matt." Mach 1 is the speed of SOUND at sea level.

Why not? Sure an OBJECT traveling at the speed of light would gain infinite mass and therefore world require infinite energy to propel it, but who's to say we're speaking about something with mass? As much as we like to pretend to understand the nature of the universe, we don't know jack. How can we say "no?" How can we say "Yes?" Let's just say maybe and see what happens.

hi ni hao.my answer is yes!!!
with the development of society ,nothing cannot happen.furthermore, more and more mysterious things have happened in the past, such as a pilot ever saw the pyrimid being built up when flying. so , no matter what others think about ,i believe the over-light-speed thing exist!!

The only thing faster than the speed of light is the speed of thought!
