You see that little star that is right under anwer question what is it for? I mean I know people can give you one but what does it do when you get one? get points for it or what?

No but it does give us a better chance of getting best answer. If we star that means we think your question is important and is added to our watch list

No points, if the question is interesting most will star, some because they may want to have their contacts check it out too.

there used to be a thumbs up right there but for some reason yahoo decided on the star. i have no clue what it does when you get one and as far as i know there on no points that go with it

No. You don't get points. It just means that I starred it, meaning that it is a question of particular importance to me.
No one gets points for giving or receiving stars.
But, I will give you one anyway.

Basically it is really only there to alert others (mostly your contacts list) about your questions and that they could find them interesting enough to read and reply to.
