A woman is pregnant for 9 months. If you are going by weeks, it is 40 weeks. Yes, a lot of people look at 40 weeks as being 10 months. But, some months have 5 weeks in them instead of 4. Anyways, if you count it out month by month, it will be 9 months.

A woman is pregnant for 9.5 months to 10.5 months!!
A woman is pregnant for 38 to 42 weeks. The first two weeks of your pregnancy are your period and then the week before ovulation.
But an average pregnancy is 40 weeks and at 4 weeks per months (roughly) that is 10 months!!!! But some babies are born at 38 weeks (9.5 months) and some (less heard of because of more doctors inducing labor) are born at 42 weeks 9 (10.5 months). But the "normal" is 40 weeks (10 months).
My daughter was born at 40 weeks and one day!

You are considered pregnant for 40 weeks because the doctors start your pregnancy from the first day of your last menstral cycle, but when in reality you aren't really pregnant until about 2 weeks after that date so you are only truly pregnant for 38 weeks.
Now, as for 10 months or 9 months it just depends on how you look at it. I got pregnant somewhere around Feb. 2 and I'm due due is Oct. 26. It can range anywhere from just under 9 calendar months (Feb.2- Mar.2, Mar.2- Apr.2, etc., starting from the date of conception) to 10 lunar months (every four weeks, starting from your last mentral cycle)

Some people think of a month as exactly 4 weeks. These people consider pregnancy to be 10 months long, 40 weeks total. Then there are people who understand that each month has about 4 1/2 weeks in it, and that from the beginning of pregnancy to the end, it really is just about 9 months, if you look at the calandar. So it depends on who you talk to, really.

In regular mths 9mths but in lunar mths its 10 mths.
How many months pregnant are you? Do "they" go by calendar months or lunar months or what?
Answer: there still is no standard - it all depends on who you're talking to. Some people use a calendar month as a measure: if your LMP (last menstrual period) was on the 5th of January, you're 1 month pregnant on Feb 5th, 2 months on March 5 and so on.
Still others use the 28 day "lunar calendar" - every 4 weeks, you're another month pregnant. In this case, a standard 280 day pregnancy (dating from LMP to EDD) is 10 months long! A true lunar month is 29.5306 days long (29.5 for our calculations here).
A more accurate way of telling people how far along you are - and the way your healthcare provider will probably date your pregnancy - is to use the number of weeks. But for those of you who really want to know your monthly status, here's a calculator for you. Just enter the date of the first day of your LMP below. Note: Your browser must be Java-enabled for the calculator to work.

Usually a woman if pregnant for 9 months. Sometimes the doctor makes the soon-to-be mom wait to let the baby to develop a little bit more. Usually since a mother wants to get the baby out the doctors let them go at 9. And sometimes the soon-to-be mom delivers at 8 months.

A woman is pregnant for 280 days, on average, from conception to delivery. That's about 10 days over 9 months.
Pregnancy starts about two weeks after a period, so by the time you miss one, you are already two weeks pregnant.

LOL.. oh my gosh. This is funny. When folks ask how far along you are - do ANY of you say.. "Why, I'm six lunar months along, thanks for asking!"?
Ok. "... first child: median duration of gestation from assumed ovulation to delivery was 274 days (uncomplicated, spontaneous-labor pregnancy in private-care white mothers). second child: median duration of pregnancy was 269 days."
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=2342739&dopt=Citation
1 year = 365.242199 days (that pesky bit is why we have leap years); divided by 12 = 30.4368 avg mo or by 52 = 7.0238 avg week
274 / 30.4368 = 9.0022 avg mos, first child
269 / 30.4368 = 8.8379 avg mos, second child
- or -
"Childbirth usually occurs about 38 weeks from FERTILIZATION, i.e. approximately 40 weeks from the start of the last menstruation ... "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnancy
38 x 7.0234 = 266.912 days
40 x 7.0234 = 280.936 days
266.912 + 280.936 / 2 = 273.924 average days in an average pregnancy for an average girl at an average date somewhere between fertilization and date of LMP. 273.924 / 30.4368 = 8.999 average months.

.. births: 84% majority born within the 32-36 week gestation period (NOT 38-40)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestation
Simply put: the pregnancy due date can be calculated by adding 40 weeks to the first day of the last menstrual period then subtracting 14 days (two weeks) from this date. This formula is known as the LMP (last menstrual period) formula.
