I have a lcd monitor but have a vga cord..i thought dvis were for lcds?

Almost all LCDs have a VGA input.

More expensive ones also have a second DVI input. A lot of manufacturers do not put a DVI cable into the box because it costs money and a lot of customers do not use it.

Also the DVI standard supports an analog connection, so if your video card has a DVI-I connector you can use a VGA to DVI-A cable, or a VGA to DVI-A adapter to connect to a VGA input monitor.

no dvi is for a sharper image
