If you work under an employment at will situation, yes they can do this. If you don't like it, you can quit. They can switch your job duties, anything they want as long as it is not illegal.

When an employer hires an employee it is with the understanding that they are able to do the job they have been hired to do during the hours they have been hired to do it. If you can't hack it then find another job. Don't apply where I work because I won't hire you.

ive learned that employers do as they please.
i worked @ a retail co. and they switched my schedule last minute when i had a 7 am final exam the next day. my schedule was to stay til mid morning doing inventory.. needless to say even though i had it on my application that i could noy work past a certain time due to FT school, she still said either i work it or quit..
i did her worse.. NO CALL NO SHOW.
**most jobs expect you to be flexable with them.. then when it comes to things you warned them about from the beginning (like your schedule) they really arent flexable for you**
