yes! and the only way to relieve yourself from the boredom is to drink copious amounts of wine and glance over cock-eyed when your date finally asks, "what's with the sweet n low tower and breadsticks in your nose??"

No, but that sounds like a pain... Maybe she was nervous or trying to fill the empty spaces in conversation. First dates can be really awkward. Usually on first dates I worry that there will be awkward silences so I talk more than usual. Sometimes if the guys I'm dating are talking way too much I'll just start talking, though... Although I think it can be a sign that they aren't that interested, or might be a little self-centered. Still, it might be worth going on a second date just to see if it was just nerves.

You just reminded me about a date from hell I went on as a teenager. I met a young Marine and agreed to go out to dinner with him in Boston, never thinking I was supposed to get all dressed up. Well, he dressed in his dress blues and wore his hat and gloves all night long -- even during dinner where he ate with his hands. And he talked and he talked and he talked. I was so embarrassed to be with him and bored almost to tears by his monologue. I'm sure he meant well and wanted to impress me, but I wanted my folks to change our home phone # after that date.

Yes and it makes me want to kill them. I don't know which is worse, when they talk about nothing, or when all they do is talk about themselves. Both are equally irritating.
