"The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
"Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett
"The Hundred Secret Senses" by Amy Tan
"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card
"The Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula Leguin
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
"Cry the Beloved Country" by Alan Paton

Early Tom Clancy are pretty good. Dune is great. Anything by Robert Heinlien is worth reading. The Trilogy of the Rings by Tolkein is fun. David Eddings books are fun but count on reading 4-5 in a row. The Crystal Cave and the rest of that series by Mary Stewart are good.

Hmmm... Hard to recommend books without knowing a little more about you, so I'll go by the Harry Potter reference. Here are some you might like:

Eragon and its sequel Eldest, by Christopher Paolini
Inkheart and its sequel Inkspell, by Cornelia Funke
The Bartimaeus Trilogy, by Jonathan Stroud
Magyk, Flyte, & Physik, by Angie Sage
The Dragonback Adventure Series, 1st is Dragon and Thief, by Timothy Zahn

Tell me a little more about what you like to read and how much time you have to read and I can help more. Enjoy!

Go to Amazon.com and search
"Lost from Atlantis Book 1" - book 2 is coming out in the next month or two, and 3 is already written and in editing.
"Death by Murder David Lindsay" - you have to search that way for it to come up. There's a lot of sex and violence in it but it's good, not gratuitous. 527 pages.
and "Super Spaghetti."

They're free on Amazon's Kindle Unlimited, and you can Google how to get a free trial of that. And you can get a free Kindle app for your phone or just read them online.

by Geoffrey Huntington
-the Ravenscliff series (it's Harry Potter meets Stephen King)

by D.J. MacHale
-Pendragon series

by Darren Shan
-Cirque du Freak series
-Demonata series

(I don't think any of them are over 300 pages--except maybe some of the books from the Pendragon series--but they all are (reeeeaaaaaaaallllllllyy good) series, so they should keep you busy!) ; D

Good Omens, it's hilarious and has a solid plot. It's a satire on the topic of the Apocalypse. It has over 400 pages.

Breathing Paris by Erin Headley is a great book. Eveyone I know who has read it has loved it. The characters are very easy to relate to and it is very difficult to put down. I highly recommend it. You can go to www.erinheadley.com for more info.

Try: the Lord of the Rings (Amazing!!)
The Abhorsen Trilogy (Sabriel, Lyriel, & Abhorsen)(also really amazing)
The Golden Compass
The Naming
Eragon (book MUCH better than the movie)

All of them fantasy, and you would probably like if you liked HP.
