I do it as a courtesy and a way of currying favor whenever I answer a question or spot a good one when I've used up my quota of answers.

It costs five points to post a question and you get three back for choosing a best answer. So, you need two stars to break even. If you found the question interesting enough to answer, you should reward the asker in order to keep them asking interesting questions.

Agree or disagree.

Chicken fingers. I used up my answer allotment by 5pm CDT today. I'm only second level. I promise to answer when the new Y!A day starts.

Disagree. There is nothing in the charts to indicate a star gives you a point

No, I never take into consider what it has cost the questioner--I assume the questioner wanted to post his or her question; I don't feel I owe him or her anything. I star questions that are show some actual thought went into them or that are not the run of the mill stuff you get on YA or that make me go "hey, that is a good question, I'd like to thank that person for thinking of asking it."

I star people most of the time even when I don't answer a question. I really only star the ones I think are good.......but then again I don't read all of the questions on here either.

You got a star from me! :)

Honey, I gave you a star for being able to type so many words in a row without any misspellings, and for know how to use commas.

I don't pay attention to the points. I give stars for effort, for making me smile, for asking something interesting that requires some thought, for being able to use a computer, for taking the time to log in to YA, for waking up and breathing today.
consider yourself starred

However I agree that we should encourage people to ask INTERESTING questions

Stars don't give points but I'll help you out.

I give stars out the wazoo. Some of the questions I can't really answer, but I think they are great or very original.
