my sister used to catch them then put them on the road and scrape them so they made a glowing line.. it was cruel. but kinda cool?

Yes, I have a memory from long, long ago crying over the death of what I called lightning bugs, feeling guilty that I put them in a jar and they died.

right here is the south (Arkansas) we call them lightning bugs. -- as quickly as we've been young babies we caught them and positioned them in a quart fruit jar. -- smiles playstation : in case you pass away your storage door open at night, the next day you will discover 1000's of lightning bugs in basic terms interior between the partitions. they are approximately 3/4 inches long and skinny (a million/4 inch) bugs with long black wings on the tops of their bodies. --- i'm useful you needed to be conscious of that. --- smiles

Of course it wasn't just you!!!
I remember being a teenager, catching this cute little frog way out in a field really far from water and in trying to get it back to water, I held it too tight and killed it. I bawled my eyes out. It was a FROG, but it is still a living thing!!!

Heck no, I used to pull off their "lights" at night and stick them on me as jewelry....earrings, necklaces, bracelets, it was such fun!
