why is it that the pics in hogwarts can talk but the one on harry's bed side table of his parents and the ones in the papers cant??? i just thought about it.. kinda odd

We've never had talking photographs---just talking portraits, which are paintings, not actual from-life things. I think maybe a certain spell or paint makes them that way. Interesting, though. I think JKR realized that it would be a little too easy for Harry if the photos could talk too... ;)

because the pictures in Hogwarts are imprints (and have some of their "brains") in them. the pictures in the newspapers are a little different then that. they don't have the "brain power" like the others.
i'm pretty sure anyways. it talks about how with Dumbledore's picture showing up in the office (6th book) that it is an imprint of the person that says things that they often said in life though that some of them are a little smarter than that and have some of the persons "brains" (that's how they put it in the book). it makes it sound like it is a little different than a normal wizarding picture.

the pictures at Hogwarts are of powerful wizards and are taken/painted by pretty powerful wizards. Whereas the others are only mediocre.

well in the second book when colin was talking about pictures he said if it was developed rite the pictures would move so maybe the pictures werent developed like the others:)

Sorry if i'm not updated. But could you tell me whether the picture of his parents can move? If they can't then the picture wasn't bewitched to move. If it can move, then I'm really clueless about why they don't talk.

They weren't really talking in the pictures... they were either laughing and dancing around or waving at the camera.
