If you are wanting to get revenue from ads, you should ask yourself "how am I going to market this website" You need to bring people to your website in order to recieve income from ads, and you do need a lot of traffic.

Hot site topics:

age-reversing cosmetics
adult sites
software/templates
cars
sports
clothes

and much, much more.

Simply ask yourself, if I got on the internet, what kind of a site would I want to find? (I'm a web designer, by the way, in case you're wondering)

Also, ask yourself, what kind of a site would I look for because of word of mouth? The reason for this is because if you have to spend money to bring people to your site then you are taking away from your ad revenue, so try to choose something that will spread by word of mouth.

Here is a couple of sites that are such that when you type in a word or phrase into them, they will tell you how many times that word/phrase was searched for last month:

Just type in "car" or something and you'll see how they work.

You also want your site to be of high quality. I believe www.1and1.com has good sitebuilders for cheap that you can make your site with.

You want your site to have lots of information and resources so that there is a reason to come to it. The bigger the site the better (but quality). Google ranks bigger sites higher. Also, get indexed and ranked higher by Google and the other search engines by getting other people to put links on their site pointing towards yours. But they need to be sites in your industry.

Google ranks sites higher after they have been in their index for 6 months. It's called the sandbox. Yahoo and MSN are less picky.

Here's a sereous link if you are looking to rank higher in Google and the other search engines:

There's a lot more to say, but that should give you some idea. Pick an industry you know something about and that you are interested in. There's nothing better than making money doing what you love.

Good Luck!

The things that attract people most are:

1. Comedy (make your own slapstick website!)
2. Games (hard to beat AddictingGames.com...)
3. Porn (I strongly advise against this.)
