Pizzaman is on the right track. To me it sounds like the main jet partly blocked. If it's a Briggs with a bowl carb then the bolt underneath the bowl when undone will give you access to the main jet. The jet could be incorporated in the bolt or up in the housing where the bolt screws in.
Check the fuel that flows from the bowl as you undo it. If there's water with the fuel then pour a half a cup of meths in a tank of fuel. That will let the water mix with the fuel and not block the jet again or drain the tank.

Gee what a range of answers! And some have no clue what they are talking about! I repair these machines 5 days a week and they are not lifetime warranty.
Onto the right answer. If it runs with the choke pulled out it is not getting enough fuel to run properly. The carb must be thoroughly cleaned or replaced.

without knowing the exact engine you have in your unit it is a guess at best. most of the larger Hp units that sears sells have briggs engines in them. Some of these larger engines have vacuum operated fuel pumps on them that have a diapharm that goes bad. At times these pumps will allow enough fuel through to operate with the choke closed check the fuel filter first them the pump. It both check out ok then the main jet in your carb is fouled with dirt. If the engine has been in storage for a long period of time then this is most likely varnish in the main jet. This would require disassemble of the carb. best left to a tech but not at sears unless under warranty. I am a factory trained tech for Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and Kohler

Could have bad gas or gas with water in it.
Clogged Fuel Filter
Bad plug. $2 it's worth a shot.
Pinhole in the fuel line.
Dirty carb. Take it off and clean it out with some carb cleaner (the kind that rots your liver, not the "green" stuff)

You need a carb cleaning. Take it to a qualified small engine shop, unless it is under warranty, in which case take it to sears.

Try fuel filter first.
if gas is old , change it.
if those do not work , you will have to take apart the carburator and clean it.
Your the man for the job! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
