Most of the republicans that I run across don't believe in any of the environmental issues that are brought up. Is there a reason for this?

I don't know everyone else's reason, but I just don't see the cycle of global warming and cooling to be effected very much by what humans do or do not do. These cycles have occurred many times over the Earths history, even before man evolved into human beings. I have a degree in Physics and a love for all sciences, so I have read or taken course in Geology, Meteorology, Astronomy, etc. I could suggest several scenarios that don't mean a thing because the data that is available is insufficient. We need to know what caused the data to be the way it was in the past to apply it to current climate changes. For example, the Earths magnetic field flips periodically from North to South and back again over thousands of years. Near the stage of flipping, the magnetic field weakens for several years. This allows the solar win to blow away part of out atmosphere just like it did to the atmosphere that once existed on Mars. When this happens, it is possible there is not enough CO2 in the atmosphere to retain heat from the Sun. The result, an Ice age until the magnetic field gets strong enough to retain the CO2 needed to warm the planet. Of course, this is pure conjecture, but so is most of what the libs say about Global warming and how we can stop it if we all try hard

Yes, we use logic and not emotion. The environmental movement has lots of credibility problems.

1. They are filled with commies, hippies, socialists, and anti-capitalists

2. In the 1970s it was global cooling, then in the 1980s it was acid rain, and then it became global cooling, and finally, it is climate change. They predict things and are always wrong

3. I am not arrogant enough to believe we can completely destroy the planet.

4. The so called leaders are phonies. They fly in their private jet lecturing us about what to do.

5. If humans cause global warming, then how did we get out of the ice ages we have had?

6. We cannot predict weather past 7 days, what makes any rational person think these doom and gloom predictions are accurate?

This is just the beginning.

Well, logic dictates we break from what the liberal media is feeding us.

Logic: We are coming out of an Ice Age and accordingly the Earth is getting warmer. This can even be seen on other planets.

Logic: The Earth was a heck of a lot warming 10s of thousands of years ago, so warm in fact that Antarctica was hospitable to plants and other life (we recently found fossils there).

Logic: All of the "detrimental" effects of Global Warming can only be seen on computer models. Models that have been tweaked to get the desired outcome (like with the recent revelation of the Seal Level model).

Obviously you're running across the wrong Republicans. There are enough out there who understand the issue and the science behind it (I dare say that most Democrats don't understand the science behind it) but feel that the solutions that too many have would result in a drastic economic downturn.

The demographics of the country (we have extremes in weather that very few other countries have, as well as being much more spread out than almost all countries on Earth) are not going to allow us to simply shut off use of fossil fuels overnight, unless you plan on everyone abandoning major portions of the Midwest, the South, and the West. It's very easy for those sitting in the Boston-Washington megalopolis to say that no one should drive a car, but it's a little tough to do when you live in a place like central Nebraska.

I am a Republican and I believe that the earth is warming. I don't believe that man is the cause of the warming though. We are in a natural cycle. The Earth has been much warmer than it is now. Why do most Democrats ignore any evidence that is to the contrary of the popular "consensus" of global warming?

I do and I also appreciate the environment that we live in. I've been conserving for years, planting trees, using less fuel and do what I can.

I also believe that the global warming that we're experiencing is a natural cycle and not man made. However, I think that we should all pay respect to mother nature and do what we can to help.

I'm a conservative.

global warming is an industry for leftists to carve out jobs for
themselves doing little if anything.

there are always things that make sense to change..but the Chicken Little mentality..and the fact it's so politicized..is just something to argue about..

besides the ones promoting it..fly in private jets that consume more fuel in a couple of hours than an entire family..following the rules do ..for weeks and weeks

I think that there are several reasons. First, the religious right does not believe that God would let global warming happen on His earth. Or, if it does happen, God will save them. Second, most of the consevative talk show big shots and the commentators at Fox News are very anti-global warming, and they influence millions of conservatives.

Third, the rich, corporate Repubs are afraid that doing something about global warming will hurt their stocks and slow economic growth. This group has enough money that they can move to higher ground or another country if global warming has very negative impacts on the US. They don't care if millions of poor and working class people in this country lose their homes and their neighborhoods are destroyed as long as they keep making money. What a bunch of short-sighted scumbags!

"There's a lot of differing data [about global warming], but as far as I can gather, over the last hundred years the temperature on this planet has gone up 1.8 degrees. Am I the only one who finds that amazingly stable? I could go back to my hotel room tonight and futz with the thermostat for three to four hours. I could not detect that difference."

We don't believe in every wind of apocalyptal change the Liberals throw our way.

Conservatism is about a Constitutional interpretation, primarily. Ditto Liberalism, primarily. The beliefs flow from there, politically.

Conservatives can believe whatever they wish about global warming. It is not determined politically. It is scientific.
