I'm looking at:
2.0 GHz
vs
2.166 GHz
both intel core 2 duo with 1 gb RAM. Does that mean it's 8% faster? I'm thinking I might as well since I can't upgrade later but not $100 if it's only 8%.

okay so the upgrade is a nono but what about RAM. I'm sure having 2gb instead of 1gb won't do anything If I don't use it all...or do I?

I am guessing that there is a difference in the Front Side Bus speed, so the speed difference of your computer will probably be more than the 8% processor speed. But the memory would be more expensive too.

If you are not doing serious gaming then always remember Moore's 2nd law: All computers wait at the same speed.

So unless you are regularly doing something that fully utilizes your CPU power having a more powerful CPU is pointless.

Despite what Intel's advertising people would have you believe, a faster CPU will not speed up the internet, or make your pictures look better or make your music sound better.

If you are into gaming you are better off putting the money into a better graphics card than the CPU.

Get the 2.0 GHz and overclock it. The CPU will easily go above a 2.166 even with the same fan on it. But I am assuming this is out of your knowledge, if it is, just skip it and get the 2.0 GHZ any way, put the $100 buck towards a good video card.

No just get the 2Ghz, use the money you saved to get more RAM or put it towards a new graphics card.

Yeah, if you are gaming, and can afford it, go ahead and get the upgrade. However, if you're not planning on playing games (or doing graphical work, or something similar) don't get it.

No. Not under any circumstances. The difference in the performance even in gaming would be trivial.
