I am just wondering since my puerto rican friend thinks my selection of men is a bit racist?I grew up even though i am spanish mix my mom is from Costa Rican mixed with german/portugese/pinch of middle eastern blood and my dad is Spainard/french in an all white neighborhood.Everyone i grew up with was Jewish,Irish,or Italian for the most part.I have never dated a hispanic person or any race other than white. But i have no problem with other races i am friendly to everyone and after college have many friends from different backrounds.Am i racist for only ever dating white guys ?I am going to married next week to a guy who is scottish, german, and irish and to be honest have never thought about this ?

That doesn't make you a racist. You date who you date and if you found someone that was Hispanic and a great guy then you would have been with him. that's just the way your cards were dealt. Don't let your friend make you believe something that isn't true. Being a racist is much worse than not dating a certain person. You're not a racist, don't let her get to you.

You are not a racist. But I am astounding at the ignorance of many of the people who are answering you. In your situation the cards fell where they did and you love the guy so marry him. But many of the people are answering while using the word "preference" as it pertains to dating. I prefer big boobs , rich women and lots of money but I end up getting a deep person who loves me and I love them. If I bring race into this equation even as a "preference" then I AM A RACIST" because MY DEFINITION of racist is simply a choice based on race so we all are that. If you have avoided latin guys which I believe that you believe you have..... then well...you figure it out......it's a free country but a spade is still a spade.

That is not racist but if you thought about it that way for so long, that means you never gave "them" a chance. I am a latina and never dated a latino until i met my husband. Many women think that latino men are "machista" and this is not the case. My husband is the greatest person that I have ever met and I am greatful for him.
Get married and dont worry about little things like that. Good luck and i wish you the best!

Forget about race, and think about culture. You grew up in a certain culture and surroundings, and you will be most comfortable with someone who has similar values.
Some people confuse race with culture.
Anyway, you are going to be married next week, so considering dating anybody you never have is off limits forever...hehe...
but good for you hope you are happy.

Every one has a preference, maybe you were just never attracted to a Latino man. The reason be you've been your soon to be husband for so long another man is just out of the question regardless of what race he is. That's not racist.

Not at all...most of the guys I have dated are half hispanic...just something that happens. I certainly don't avoid any race, but it just seems I'm attracted to certain types of people and certain types are attracted to me. You would only be racist if you avoided a particular man only because of his race...but that is not you.

No. I've only dated white guys, too. Not because I wouldn't date someone of a different color, but because I live in suburban Minnesota where 96% of the population is white (VERY white - we're talking scandanavian).
The fact that you haven't dated other races of people because they just aren't very available doesn't make you racist.

No, of course not. We tend to date those guys with backgrounds we can relate to, and who are involved in things we are - similarities of how we grew up, for example. I'm not racist at all, yet I'd be in the same boat as you.
For me, it was important to marry someone of the same religion and similar ethnicity - because I'd want to keep the traditions of my culture, and my religion is important to me. So I did, and we've been married almost 18 wonderful years!
Just don't worry about this at all..
