don't think it's powdery mildew (it's not on the leaves); so what is it & do i need to treat it?
just happened in the last few weeks after all the rains we've had in North Texas.
this is an established crepe myrtle - about 20 ft tall.

scale insect. probably cottony scale. spray an insecticide listed for scale as soon as possible

nicely, the white paint is there for one in each of two motives. One reason is that portray is an insect repellent. on the different hand Greek roads-extraordinarily in areas with small inhabitants- are often no longer nicely illuminated and portray the tree trunks is a thank you to duplicate easy interior the evening.
