The answers before me are correct, however I feel the NBA should redefine a "blocked shot". How about only counting a block when the blockers team gains possession or if the block is within 3 seconds of a 24 second violation causing a hurried shot. If a player is dribbling the ball down the court and his defender knocks the ball out of bounds, it's nice D but not a steal - so why should a ball blocked 10 rows into the stands be a blocked shot? If I block a ball out of bounds and the opponents make a three pointer on the next play, my block has actually cost my team points.

Wilt Chamberlain had probably over 7000 career blocks .
Bill Russell is right their also, third is Alcindor/Jabbar.
Unfortunately the stat has only been kept since 1974, so it's probably Shawn Bradley or someone else not nearly as good as those three.
