this has been a friend of mine for many many years. i basically asked him what he was up to tonight and he said he had ordered the UFC on PPV. I then asked if i could come by and watch. he said sure if you can chip in a few bucks. i said ok and that i'd be over. but then i realized that i don't have a few bucks to give him. i'm dead broke. i looked under all my couches and came up with nothing.

Does he know that it is illegal to charge others to watch pay-per-view?

I would not consider anyone to be a friend that required me to pay them for viewing a movie in their home.

Now, if he asked you to bring snacks for everyone to share, and others were doing the same; that would be fine.

You could call him and indicate that you do not have any money at this time, but he could collect his "fee" out of the money his roommate owes you.

You will have learned two lessons from this....who your friends truly are and if you cannot afford to give away money, you should never "loan" money.

Good luck.

Look man, normally I'd say definitely don't be the *** who doesn't pay. But since you said his roomate owes you money. Take it off the top and get him to pay. This way, his debt comes down and you still watch the phucking event.

Just tell him sorry, I can't afford that expense right now, although I'd love to come over. Then you leave him the opportunity to still let you come over for the event without payment.

that would make me really mad especially if his roomate already owed you money & you really can't afford it. plus he's already paid for it so whether or not you come and watch he's gonna see it so i don't really see the point unless the two of you made plans to split the cost and watch it together. sounds like a cheap "friend" to me...

It is illegal to charge admission to see the pay per view. He can however ask you to pay for the food etc he is providing. I think I would look for a different kind of friend.

Tell him to deduct it from the monye the roommate owes you, since you are probably not going to see it anyways

Sit back for a few minutes and redefine "friend."
