WASHINGTON – China, the leading exporter of seafood to the U.S., is raising most of its fish products in water contaminated with raw sewage and compensating by using dangerous drugs and chemicals, many of which are banned by the Food and Drug Administration.

The stunning news follows WND's report last week that FDA inspectors report tainted food imports from China are being rejected with increasing frequency because they are filthy, are contaminated with pesticides and tainted with carcinogens, bacteria and banned drugs.

China has consistently topped the list of countries whose products were refused by the FDA – and that list includes many countries, including Mexico and Canada, who export far more food products to the U.S. than China.

It is not a problem of politics. It's all about business.

If the People's Republic of China were democractic, say as democratic as the Republic of China, the situation would still be similar. If you criticize the Chinese for not having a free market, then when they do, you criticise their business practices, many will stop listening to your criticisms period. I say this in regard to the situation of piracy, or prohibited copying, which occurs in both the PRC and the ROC.

The Chinese authorities in both the PRC and the ROC have taken legal steps to address the situation. But when one gets arrested, and possibly put out of business, another pops up to take his place. Both places have large populations with limited resources, yet they are encouraged to be merchants above all else, and they strive to compete in the international market. One way they can compete is to cut corners, as the example of the banned food additives shows.

I am not saying that only the Chinese are guilty of doing this, I am saying this situation happens because of economics, not politics. Although, one could admit that economic sabotage is the result of both economic and political motives. To answer your question - yes, they do care, since they have few other options but to be merchants in their socities.

p.s. The former drug and food safety chief, Zheng Xiaoyu, was executed on Tuesday this week for taking bribes and derecliction of duty. This may be a token gesture, but those of you are calling for his head, or some action to be taken, it has.*

I don't think they are really. But they might be more concerned may be if US companies who sell Chinese made goods demand higher standards and threatened to refuse business with Chinese factories, manufacturers. The problem isn't just China alone, but it's this wacky relationship where US exploits cheap labor in China or elsewhere.

We ask Chinese to produce goods at rock bottom price, but blame them for pollutions, abuses...etc all the things they do to give me cheap shoes at Wal Mart.

At the end you get what you pay for. I think late news stories about these Chinese products are proof of that.

Tell you what, if it's made in China and I can find it on the label (I look), it goes right back on the shelf.

Only eat hotdogs that are manufactured in Michigan and avoid everything that comes from China.

Yes, but it is nothing new to me. A few years ago there was a study that found that plastic child lunch boxes made in China contained an unacceptable amount of lead.

For those of you who are old enough... Remember when "Made in Japan" was a sign of crap? They caught on pretty well. So will the Chinese.
