They both tend to be dark and have dark features.
BUT Spaniards don't have the Native American features that many (but not all) Mexicans have (narrower eyes, broader nose).
There are many brown haired and maybe blonde Spaniards but 98% of Mexicans have black hair.
There is some overlap because almost all Mexicans have some Spanish ancestry.

First and foremost, I am a spaniard so my opinion might be a little influenced by my culture, but...
I spent a year in southern california long ago (10 years or more ago). The fact is that the second or third day in highschool I heard a group of hispanic girls talking about me, the said "have you seen the gringo in the red t-shirt, ..." they obviously said it in spanish, not knowing that I was a spaniard. Days after that the teacher told them I was a foreign exchange student and the jumped over their seats and addressed to me saying "Can you understand spanish???". I was borned red haired and then it turned to blonde till I was around 13 when it just turned dark brown.
In my country, spain, when we were children we used to make fun as every child does about different children, which is cruel and mean but common in children. So ... we used to cal "******" the people looking brownish. Usually that was nothing racist since we all considered the same race but it was also common to call these brown people moors trying to tease them. Please bear in mind that this was a childish thing and that most of us were friends and in spain is very common to make not only fun of oneself but also of everyone else.
Historically most of the moors were killed, kicked out, converted, or whatever the Inquisition wanted to do with them with the excuses they made up. But it seems that somehow they might had wanted to clean the race.
Besides white spaniards dont usually look like norwagian or sweedish white people which are really pale, still there are some of those too. Most dark people looks like italians in american movies, those that play mob films.
If anyone feels offended but something I say please excuse me. I personally think it is dumb to think that skin is important, I like to meet every type of people and I usually learn many thing from them.
Greetings from spain, Basque Country.

No Mexicans are for the most part mostly American Indian more so than Spanish. They have features of the Southern Plains American Indians and Azetc Indians.
Spaniards on the other hand in the northern part of Spain which was not occupied by the Moors are more Celtic in apperance especially in Castile which is mainly Celtic and according to folk lore is the orgin of the Celtic race which includes the Irish, Scots, Welch, and Bretons in France. Many of them are red headed and greened eyed, or blond headed and blue eyed like the other Celtic people.
In the southern regions of Spain which were occupied by the Moors the people are darker with Meditterrian features.

Yes, it is believed even they have some common attributes, some far more unbelievable that others, mainly:
They have a head, two eyes (well most of them), a nose a couple of arms, legs and even (believe it or not) genitalia, which in case of Mexicans of both sexes ('cause they come in both) are far more powerful (if not larger)than Spaniards.

Yes, I think so.
Technically all Mexicans are descendants of the Spaniards.
But that's just me.. I can't even tell the difference between different Spanish accents or if a person is from Colombia or Peru, but other Latinos can & Mexicans will probably argue that they look nothing like their distant Spaniard cousins.
