Is it 100% altruistic?

It's a combination of things. It's kind of mindless fun but at the same time you can share expertise in areas that you enjoy. I also like to answer questions in areas that have been life changing for me....like telling people how to get out of debt or lose a lot of weight. I did both of those things and it's fun to be able to help other people have success in those areas. So I suppose to answer your question, maybe not 100% altruistic because I am having fun while I'm trying to help and I also have answered some questions just to verbally slap jerky people.

I don't know what altruistic means but I'm bored and my parents are busy doing something else and this keeps my mind from thinking bad thoughts. It also keeps me entertained (especially when there's dumb questions--not saying this is one).

It is a lot of fun! I feel important helping people. People have helped me with my questions on Yahoo! Answers and I want to return the favor.

Because people use words I have to look up in the dictionary. ;)
And yes, it is good to at least try to help others. But mostly I think it is because everyone has an opinion and wants to share it with others.

I am sort of a talkaholic in my classes (senior in college) so its a good way to keep answering questions during the summer.

I answer questions on here because I like to help people and sometimes I get bored when I'm online-I'm not too fond of porno.

I answer questions because I think it's really fun to share my opinions with other people. I also like to hear what other people have to say.

of course not, it's purely for entertainment. now and again i'll answer something that might help someone out but most of the questions are asking for opinions, not facts. i guess i like to insert my two-cents as it were.

Because I like to share with others. I like to hear what others think, what they question. If I can help with something, that is a HUGE bonus for me.
