watch it from 1-135 than skip the rest and continue at ep 218
thats my recommendation......(the reason i told you to skip the stuff in between is because they are all filler episodes.......
so yeah watch it from the beginning cause youll understand the story better and youll like it more
or if you dont want to do that then watch the show starting with shipuuden, when you develop a liking to it youll probably want to go back and watch it from the very start

If you don't watch it from the beginning, you won't get it.
Backround history is very important in this series, and if you start halfway through, you'll find yourself very frustrated.
Youtube takes down videos, but I'm sure you can find nearly every one on there.
Start with 1. Obviously. If you have trouble understanding it, go to a forum where you can ask questions, and read other people's topics about Naruto, and learn new things.
Narutomania.com has a good forum.
When you get to around 135, (or when the plot suddenly changes, and has absolutely no relevency to what you just watched previously) the fillers start.
They were intended to take up time, while the manga could jump ahead once again. The anime and manga were almost colliding at that point. The animators kept the fillers going for almost 2 years, until episode 218 (or around that). That is where they end for good.
The new arc, commonly called Shippuden or Part 2, is a 2 and a half year time jump, so the main characters are about 15. This is where it takes place, and if you didn't catch the end of Part 1, you won't catch on.
The anime is currently on episode 18 of Shippuden, or episode 236 of the whole anime.
I hope you take a chance and watch this anime through and through. It's very addicting, just make sure you follow the episodes one by one! Good luck!

Start with Naruto, (skip the fillers) and go on to Shippuden, or just read the manga, which has no fillers in the first place, and is further ahead. http://groups.msn.com/narutomangareturns has the manga, and something called Kakashi Gaiden (sidestory) which I am told never appeared in the anime. Also, DO NOT start from the 200s... you will only get lost, start from the VERY beginning (unless you read some summaries of what happened before). It explains better, since it is introducing the characters to everyone.

Start at the begining of course!!! alot of really interesting stuff happens in the episodes you skipped! whats worse is you started in the fillers, if you don't know what that means, it means none of the stuff happening is important. And don't start with naruto shippuuden, ull be totally lost, because everything that happens in it has something to do with what happened in the earlier naruto episodes... i think around episode 140 the fillers start, so thats where you sould switch to shippuuden!

It is worth it to watch from the first show. If you watch it on youtube.com you can fast forward through parts that are flashbacks. Plus without the commercials they are only 10 to 15 minutes. That will help you catch up and still skip the flashbacks that are boring so many people. Naruto is an excellent story.
