I call it a shame! People get to express their freedom of speech in most any way they want. I think burning a flag to make a point is a shame. They do it to get a rise out of others. There are a few reasons burning a flag is acceptable a worn out or damaged is a couple.

Neither. Freedom of speech is the freedom to express yourself. People can use that freedom to burn the flag. Some person said it is the most abusive form of the freedom of speech, but I would propose that the most abusive form of it would be advocating harm to others -- particularly children. The flag is just a symbol -- nothing else. It harms nobody when it is burnt. Not to say I advocate burning the flag, but it's better to burn the flag than to, say, fly airplanes into the WTC.

Here's the question:
Would you rather have the symbol of freedom or the freedom?
I think people are abusing the First Amendment if they burn a flag, but it is a vicarious and acceptable result of the liberty and decency that Freedom of Speech offers.

I don't know about treason but real close, as unpatiotic as you can get. As for freedom of speech it's about the most abusive form of it!

The American Flag gives us the FREEDOM that allows those to burn it. Reality is that while I find it absolutely terrible, the flag itself stands for the FREEDOM to be able to do it. To take that away destroys more than just the material fiber of the flag, it destroys the fiber of our freedom.

it depends what you're doing it for but if it's for a good purpose, say the flag touches the ground, then it's symbolic speech if you burn it but if you burn the flag because you hate america then that's some kind of treason i guess

It is freedom of expression.

It is not treasonous to burn a piece of cloth-regardless of the symbolism.

It depends on where it's being burned. If it's in another country by a foreigner, I could dismiss it as racism and care less. If it's being burned by an American on American soil, I think that's complete disrespect and taking this "freedom of speech" thing to it's extreme outer limits. I also hope they wrap themselves up in it before they set it on fire.
