have them play their best 10 in rank order. For example, if I think the SEC and PAC-10 are best, Florida would play USC, LSU would play cal and so forth (and no I don't). Predict who wins each game and why and crown your own best conference. 10 points goes to the most insight and explanation.

I would go SEC and Big XII right now. Sorry, Big Ten fans, but once you get below Michigan and Wisconsin this year, the other 9 blow chunks.

SEC would drop Vandy and Mississippi State from their 12 to make 10, Big XII would drop Baylor and Colorado.

SEC in order after that:
1. Florida
2. LSU
3. Auburn
4. Tennessee
5. Alabama
6. Georgia
7. Arkansas
8. South Carolina
9. Kentucky
10. Mississippi

Big XII:
1. Texas
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas A&M
4. Nebraska
5. Texas Tech
6. Missouri
7. Oklahoma State
8. Kansas State
9. Iowa State
10. Kansas

SEC wins at least 7 of those 10, but there are a lot of close matchups. Right now, without really going in depth, I'd go Texas over Florida, LSU over OU, Auburn over A&M, Tennessee over NU, Texas Tech over Alabama, Georgia over Missouri, Arkansas over Oklahoma State, South Carolina over Kansas State, Kentucky over Iowa State, and Kansas over Mississippi. SEC could easily win 9 of those, and the Big XII could win about 5-6, but the SEC is deeper.

I'd put the rest of the conferences in this order:
3. Pac Ten
4. ACC
5. Big Ten
6. Big East

This is a cyclical thing but the SEC is one of the two bestt without a doubt. That's not my opinion. It is the opinion of every informed college football analyst in the country. Right now the second best is probably the Pac 10 or the Big 10 even though both are extremely top heavy. The ACC is definitely on the upswing but only a somebody totally devoid of common sense would think that they are one of the two best teams right now.

I will not go through a conference by conference comparisons of teams because it is a pointless and fruitless exercise. Do you really care if, say, I think Clemson could beat Arizona State? The bottom line right now is that LSU and USC are totally loaded and have favorable schedules (scheduling plays as much a roll in the BCS pre-season rankings as anything else). I will be stunned if one of these two teams isn't in the top 4 at season's end. I will not be surprised if both are in the top 4 at season's end. They may even play each other for the BCS Championship. So I'll rank the conferences:
1) SEC - simply because of depth: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, LSA, and Auburn virtually live in the Top 20.
2) Pac 10 - because of USC and Cal. Oregon and OSU are usually between pretty good and very good but other than that: mediocrity.
3) ACC - because there are some teams that can get hot and go on rolls: Miami, FSU, and VT to name a few but these same teams could go 7 - 5 just as easily as they go 10 - 2.
Toss up: Big 10 and Big 12 - Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and Oklahoma are all legitimate contenders if they get the breaks they need but I do not believe that either of teams have the depth of LSU or USC. If you wanted to rank either of these leagues of the ACC I wouldn't complain.
4) Big East - Louisville and Rutgers were good last year. Louisville needs to prove that they can sustain their momentum with the new coaching staff. Rutgers needs to prove that they weren't a one trick pony.
5) Everybody else.

I believe the SEC is the best conference with the Big 10 a distant second. Hey Gary W. sure big east was 5 and 0. Look who they played Western Michigan (8 & 5), Wake Forrest (11&3), Kansas State (7&6), East Carolina (7&6), and Georgia Tech (9&5). Wake Forrest had a patsy schedule except for Florida State who had an off year. K State and Tech had bad years. Yeah I guess the big east was the best...of the second division. Anyway heres my matchups:

LSU over Michigan
Florida over Penn St.
Tenn. over Wisc.
Auburn over OSU
Georgia loses to Iowa
Bama loses to Purdue
Ark. over Minn.
S. Carl. over Mich. St
Miss. over Illinois
Miss St loses to Indiana

To the brain surgeon that picked Tennessee over Wisconsin- Penn State, the Big Ten No. 4 beat Tennessee last year. What chance do you think they would have against a perennial top 10 team like Wisconsin?
