I'm only 27 (lol) but everytime I hear people talking about My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, Nickleback, etc, I think what is wrong with most people today? And then I remember that the generation above me probably thought the same thing.
I always presume that the people that like these bands, must be about 15 - which is unfair. It makes me feel ashamed. Do YOU feel guilty for making such presumtions?

(Sorry this question is a bit long-winded).

Boy Blue - I still think the Foo Fighters are new. I also think that they are one of the better bands around today! Dave Grohl has really made it.

This is a really good question. To some degree, it does feel that way with the very bands you have mentioned. And yes, they do suck hard. However, back in the 90's we also had a lot of bands that were just as band if not worse. Creed, Hootie, Counting Crows, The Cranberries come to mind but I know I am forgetting others. I guess my point is that I try to judge all music as fairly as possible without regard to when it came out. I will not say it sucks just because it got played in a block of music with MCR. No shame here!

You Shouldn't Feel Guilty Atall, I'm 18 And I Prejudge The People Of My Generation In The Same Way. I Feel As Though I'm The Only Teenager Who Has An Appreciation Of Credible Music, Which Isn't Fair Because Even Though We're A Minority, There Are Some Young People With A Fair Idea Of What Real Music Is. Having Said That, I Guess We Shouldn't Be So Hard On The Kids Who Sing The Praises Of Fall Out Boy And The Likes, Music Culture Has Become So Image Orientated And Commercialised, It's Hard For Impressionable Teens To Break Away From The Pop Punk Garbage The Music Industry Are Shoving Down Our Throats. I Guess You And I Need To Consider Ourselves Lucky That We Are Independant Thinkers Blessed With Insightful Music Taste. Don't Feel Ashamed, Feel Proud! I Know I Do =]

well I am 16 and I abso-freakin-lutely hate My chemical romance nickleback and fallout boy. Pretty much all teh new music out now sucks. Its all either emo screamo or just sounds the same. I wish I was born like 20 years earlier because then I could actually see the bads from the 80's as the made their music. So don't feel old. There are many kids that are 15/16 that are fed up with the new crap.

Wow - completely understand. I'm also beginning to worry that I'm too old to go to shows, too when I see a bunch of underaged kids at some of these venues. I think what it is, is that more young kids these days have access to the music that we didn't by way of 3 second downloads, and such, so they're getting a hold of this stuff at a faster rate than we would have at their age. It's sorta weird how our music culture is shifting. My friend loves MCR and bands like Panic at the Disco -- she's my age (30), and I'll admit I poke fun at her. As an adult, I'm more into the indie music scene just to stay on the safe side. Love punk, still. But I guess I'm a music snob when it comes to these younger bands.

I am getting ready to turn 34 this year, and I feel like a complete geezer on here sometimes. I have no idea who the bands are that the younger crowd are talking about these days. I am at that golden age when I think most of the new stuff on the radio is crap and everyone sounds the same to me! Hahahaha! And to all of you young whippersnappers who get mad and want to tell me how close-minded I am to all of the new bands, blah, blah, blah, you just wait. You will think the same thing one day!

I'm only 18 and I have a 15 year old sister that I sometimes wonder those things about too, so I think maybe it's something that has just started. I'm not sure, my husband is 20 and he thinks some of the things I do are weird, so I don't know what it is.

It happens to every generation, so don't worry about it.

Look...I'm 46 and I love listen to everything from Led Zeppelin (the greatest band in the WORLD), Mott the Hoople, David Bowie and Todd Rundgren from my high school days ......to Slipknot, H.I.M., Evanescense and Marylyn Manson. I personally think most of today's music is crap and we won't see much it remembered as "groundbreaking" or "classic" in 10-20 years.......not like we've seen with Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, Black Sabbath (their old stuff) and Deep Purple.

Yeah.....I'm starting to feel old.......my kid graduated from high school in May and starts college in Aug. He comes home and tells me how he knew all the "old music" stuff in his music history section of some class because I listen to "that oldies station that plays that crap from when you were in school, Mom". But you know.....I don't feel much different than when I was in high school so I try not to let it get to me. I listen to what I want and just keep on going with my life......besides, hope springs eternal.

I feel the same way, but I don't feel guilty about it. If bands didn't want to attract the attention of young teenagers, then they would do everything differently to attract an older crowd. I don't feel guilty at all. But I wonder if they do, because who really wants to make their big break....but then the only fans they can really get can't even drive themselves to their concerts!

I'm 25, and yes, I feel old. Those bands I'm familiar with, but I don't like their sound.

However, the music I AM into isn't necessarily from too long ago. I like stuff even from now, but not those mainstream bands mentioned.
