Children are a product of their environment... I guess they learned it from the adults in their lives.

Lying is as natural to a child as breathing. Their young brains don't think the same as grown ones. When caught doing something wrong, a child won't hesitate a second to lie. They come up with a 'plausible' explanation and hope you'll buy it, no matter how ridiculous it sounds.
Think about this... male or female... how many people have been caught 'in flagrante delicto' and lie about it?

Why do you think it's only children of that age?
I've seen grown men lie when caught red handed many a time.

Here's my guess.
Children at young ages tend to live in their own worlds. They don't have a strong understanding of how other people might respond to their actions. Because of this, they're often seen acting out their imaginations and being really silly.
Along these lines, if they get in trouble, they may think that they can fool you by fooling themselves. They don't fully grasp the concept that other people think differently than they do.

Out of fear. They are afraid of disappointing their parents or other adults. I have a 10yr old who will straight up lie to me or her father just so she doesn't disapoint us. Sooner or later they learn to stop because they realize that the punishment is WAY worse than originally expected.
