Just got the usual anchor tag and in href location of file. In both firefox and explorer the file plays on the page. Want a pop up box to appear instead giving the option to play or save the file

The webpage that links to the content cannot control this. It has to be done on the page that's hosting the mp3 file.

The server response has to set the HTTP header to include Content-Disposition = attachment.

In general, you can't control how the local browser will react to the file, nor should you.

You may be able to muck with the x-filetype on the sending side, but that will no longer be HTML, but more of a server configuration issue.

In short, you can't do it in HTML.

Right click on the link and choose Save Target As.
