I now use Spybot Search and Destroy to take adware off my pc that I must run manually, but I pay $50 per year per pc. Are there any free downloads that can do this? My goal is to periodically clean my pc of junk software. I do have AVG Free virus protection that seems to work better than Norton, that I used to pay for.

Like the others I use Ad-Aware, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware, all free and work great to keep my com free of pop-ups etc.

I am not sure how you get to pay $50 to use Spybot, I get to use it for free, as well as adaware.
I only pay for Norton but it isn't anywere near $50 lol.
Also good luck using AVG, it isn't too bad for what you pay for, but I wouldn't do any internet banking using your PC :)
