six cilinder also motor says 3300

make sure the vacuum line from the engine to the Modulator of the trans is still hooked up. if it is get a new modulator. $20 easy to put in.
if you cant, take it to a trans shop. You dont need a rebuild, it`s just some thing that is not telling the trans to shift!!!
What year is it anyway???

Check the tranny fluid and add if needed. It should be cherry red and not smell burnt. Change the fluid and filter if it's dirty. Chances are you need a transmission rebuild. Get a diagnosis from a transmission shop.

Automatic I guess check the fluid if low add some this could be the problem if fluid is alright then its time for a rebuild or a new tansmission

possible causes 1 stuck kick down cable 2 shifter linkage 3 vacum modulator more tha likely vacum modulator

standard check first gear synchronizes ,change standard grease . if automatic change oil transmission filter ,it change every 24 mile.
