How is United ***** College fund not racist?

Question

isn't it illegal for any organization to deny someone something just based on race alone? If I were to apply for college money I would be turned down solely because of my race, because I'm white. How is this not racist? I can see the use of BET and stuff like that because let's face it, there are more white based programs on tv than anything, I don't have a problem with BET. But black people can get college money from the government, such as Pell grants, just as much as a white person can. But a white person cannot get college money from the United ***** College Fund. In my mind, this is racist! What if there were a United White People's College Fund that denied people just because of their race? That would be racist too, and never tolerated! Can someone please explain this to me?

I know nothing, I'm not trying to be racist. I just wanted someone to explain the reasoning behind this.

The UNCF exists because blacks make up only 12% of the country but almost 50% of the prison's population. They also make up the lowest demographic income. It was created at a time when 1) blacks couldn't go to most colleges in the south, 2) blacks weren't able to afford to go to college because they had to help their parents out, 3) blacks weren't approved for loans even if they had what whites needed to be approved, and 4) whites weren't hiring blacks and they were blaming it on lack of education when they just allowed us to go to the same school as them in some places.

My father went to the black school in the city. That school never got new books, only got books missing pages after the white schools were getting rid of them. His father was a farmer but unlike every white farmer, couldn't even get a farm loan from the bank. My grandfather also only finished 7th grade because that was when whites drove him and his mother away and he had to build them a new house with his bare hands to have a place to stay.

My point is that my father was often pulled out of class to help in the fields, white kids weren't having this problem. So if my father can still get all his work done, and get accepted into a college in the south, how is he supposed to attend school? UNCF.

Through the years things have changed, but there is still more blacks that go to prison every year than go to college. It is necessary to keep the kids out of prison.

Try to apply for a pell grant when your parents are in prison... not so easy. Look, it is a necessity.

FYI, there are several scholarships and college admittance rules at most universities that pretty much make it impossible for blacks or anyone lower-income to meet the requirements. You try to play a sport, run for student gov't, maintain a 3.9 GPA and work full time in high school. It's possible except the working part. This is why we need the UNCF.

It is amusing how some people are under the assumption that racism is fully dead and black people don't need UNCF or the NAACP or any of the other organizations geared toward blacks. Never mind that in America there are neighborhoods that don't have any blacks or other minorities in them as well as whole towns and no one is crying foul for that. Also in this day and age it is not uncommon for an African American to walk off without getting a loan from a bank for education.

This fund started in a time when blacks had to have a sepreate college and didn't have much money, so yeah it did a great good. Today, there's still a need for it. It's no unknown fact that blacks have a higher percentage of poverty than whites. So who needs it more?

And the UNCF is open to everyone now, if I'm not mistaken.

No its not racist just as they say they give aid to "minorities" now from what I understand in this good old usa (being sarcastic) looking down my list of minority races in the usa.....hmmm dont see caucasions. Look if u want money there are plenty of other ways to obtain it without having to pay someone back. look for grants or scholarships in your type of interest, but dont try to criticize a organization because they want to see others races have a decent education.

I can imagine the outrage if there were also a "United White People's College Fund". Even if it serves all like the UNCF.

Maybe it's time for a name change.

Have you ever looked into scholarships before? You'll find an abundance of specific things that people have to qualify under to be in the running for that particular scholarship or assistance. Sometimes its religion...other races....where they live....if parents have worked for specific companies.....income....majors..... If the United ***** College fund is not legal....you have a MULTITUDE of others based on alot of other reasons.

it was created at a time when blacks couldn't get college money. they have just continued it. it's not racist. you don't understand what has happened to blacks psycologically and there's no way i'm typing all of it on here. but blacks need help with things like that. just know that. hope i helped.

They support all races, just not the white devil. How could you think it is racist? Everyone knows every white person is rich and doesn't need education because everything is always given to them. White people have got it easy..........I should know.

note- raven is right......I mean everyone in the generation now got beaten and were slaves so they should get the credit for it.
