Mother in laws don't back off unless you are assertive and put her in her place.

I get along great with my son-in-laws!! I try to stay level headed with all my kids. When they have a problem if it's my daughter{s} fault and I can see that I will usually tell them they are in the wrong. But if it's their husbands fault I tell them their in the wrong. I don't favor any of them because I love all of them and don't want to see them getting a divorce over something that can be fixed. I think my girls mothers-in-laws try to do the same thing. But I get along with all my son-in-laws, so don't group all of us in this please. We're not all bad.

Depends on what type of person she is. When MIL's interfere they usually just get worse. Her son needs to talk to her and stop her meddling. It is his life and yours. Do what is best for the both of you and do not concern yourself with her.
Believe me, a person like that has a certain energy that rubs off and is easy for others to see.
Let her look like the fool and you try to be nice and in control.

The people that know her, "know" her.
They may not be saying it but I'm sure she shows her true colors, and not just to you.
Just remember: kill them with kindness :)

don't apologize to your mother in law...

let her know she's intruding and it's none of her business.

avoid her -- if at all possible (i assume she might be seeing your kids if any?)
