The new seven wonders of the world were announced moments ago in Lisbon as:

Great Wall of China,
Petra,
Christ the Redeemer,
Machu Picchu,
Chichen Itza,
Colosseum,
Taj Mahal

What are people's view on this new 7 wonders, especially with The Pyramids of Giza as "Honorary Candidate".

Do people think this is a mistake or not to make this new list as these momuments are now immortalised as a new 7 wonders?

What would your ideal 7 wonders be? Would you change the wonders from the originals (Pyramids, Bablyon, etc..)? Would a 7 wonders of the modern world, ie Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House, be a better idea?

I think the great pyramids of giza should still be a wonder. First of all they are older than any of the new wonders. They also have a lot history insede them. People should not have stripped them of their status for no good reason.

My seven wonders:

1) The great pyramids at Giza
2) Taj Mahal
3) Great Wall of China
4) Colosseum
5) Acropolis
6) Stone Hedge
7) Chichen Itza

Stonehenge and its landscape, including Woodhenge and the virtually invisible Durrington Walls. These, and other constructions, Robin Hood's Ball, Wilsford Shaft and innumerable long and later round barrows scatter the plain, a sacred place for over two thousand years starting about five thousand years ago. Surprisingly it was important a long time before round ditches were dug or stones erected as shown by the large wooden poles erected in what is now the car park. Another claim to fame is the closeness - a day's walk - of Stonehenge and that other famous stone circle, Avebury. This much larger, partially restored, open stone circle was later built into and used for the surrounding village, which makes it visitor friendly ,though the crowds of visitors may try the patience of the locals. It, also is part of s sacred complex of monuments, including Silbury and Windmill Hills ( not the same, the former is 'man-made') and West Kennet long barrow. These two, close ancient sacred landscapes make up a monument of world importance - and they are still visible and accessible! The original importance of this part of Wessex, the ease with which visitors may enjoy the ambiance and walk among, or near these ancient stones, the importance of the surrounding landscapes all make this one of the most important prehistoric places of the world.

I'm happy with the list. Especially since Machu Picchu and Petra are in it. I didn't really understand the "honary candidate" thing. What did they mean? I think they should have a new list, but not like "new" seven wonders of the world. Maybe seven wonders of the modern world and seven wonders of the ancient world...not nescesarily the "new" wonders. I don't know. I do think the Acropolis of Athens should've made it though. And Stonehenge would've been my first pick and the Easter Island Moais.

I don't see nothing wrong with a new list considering that the only one of the original 7 wonders still exists. The world is bigger place now and the originals were only in the known world of the Mediterranean. I am happy that Machu Picchu and Chichen Itza made it.

I absolutely abhor the idea that a recently build statue with no particular historical value made the list. The fact that this left out other sites like Stonehenge or Easter Island Maois is just pathetic.

I say we should start a campaign to erase the christ from that list!

Like most critics of this project I DO OBJECT TO THE VERY IDEA OF CHOOSING 7 WONDERS of the world by ON-LINE voting!!!!!
Compare the FIGURES:
about 100 million those having ON-LINE voted VS
over 6 BILLION world population !!!

I'm pleased. I voted for several of these. I just wish it would have been Statue of Liberty instead of Petra. I know it was a public vote, but Petra is sooo remote....it won on reputation alone.

great, i just think they're great. and i agree with answerer 1, stonehenge would have been my choice too :-)

I'd like to think that they still missed out on other manmade structures somewhere unexplored.
