I see that both Intel & AMD has their fans & these fans are very strong in their opinions.
Now where I purchase this new laptop, it will ride on a police type stand between me and my wife while we travel down the road in our motorhome.
It will be providing me with GPS directions thru DeLorme, plus an internet connection thru T-Mobile.
I will have no problem with power as I have a 2,000 watt inverter & a 7.5KW generator.
Will I have a heat problem with these new chip sets? If so how about a cooling solution.

Depends on your needs, but Intel's core 2 duo is the best chip set in the market right now, the thing is do you need the latest technology? People always try to get the newest things in the market and after a few days they realize that they paid for things they will never use. Go for something like a core 2 duo 1.73 GHz at least 1GB of RAM 160 GB of HDD. Visit bestbuy or circuit city they have great deals on notebooks maybe you will find exactly what you're looking for. Visit Tom's hardware.com they have a lot of reviews and information about computers and components, then you can get an idea on what you're looking. By the way stay away from Dell cheap components high prices.

The answer is relative to your needs or for why you want the information. Technically Intel has the most advanced processor based on benchmarking tests. But AMDs high end CPUs may do more than you need or want them to do and you would save several hundred dollars probably. So if you want the fastest, most pwerful of the two then the top end Intel, at the moment is the best. But a high end AMD will most likely satisfy your needs, and the majority of peoples needs. If processors were free grab a few Intels, but since they arent, consider your options. Processor power dollar value is another topic to look into. In a year or two this situation may be reversed, so its not a permanent situation.

Well it depends on how much you want to spend and how fast you want it. Here is the simple plain truth about speed, and I list benchmarks to support it so no fanboys telling me I am wrong. The Core 2 Duos are fastest, followed by the Core Duos, then the Turion X2s. The Core 2 Duos and Turions are 64 bit, while the Core Duos are only 32 bit. Centrino is not a processor but a name given to certain laptops with a specific processor/chipset/wireless combination. The Pentium Dual Core on laptops is basically a cut down version of the Core Duo. Celerons and Semprons are budget processors, you will probably want to avoid them. As for the new chips, well if you can stand to wait and you want better performance, then wait. I think that is everything, if I left anything out email me.

I would recommend a Intel. Their Pentium line is almost out of date, their Centrino line is good for laptops that are geared for long battery life, their dual core are great for desktop replacements and gaming laptops. Their quad core are yet to be seen in laptops, but is supposedly going to be released in 2008. Unless you are a serous gamer, I would recommend going with the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor with the Santa Rosa platform.

AMD is better for gaming. Intel Core Duo is for marathon processing.
Depends on what you want to do. Also AMD was always 64 bit.

Do a AMD chip set. Pick AMD dual core. This is for many reasons. Some are faster, cheaper, and better. The AMD is 64bit dual core. While Intel is 32bit dual core. This means more speed for you.

Intel is the fastest right now but AMD is alright as well.
I would say that if you don't care about the biggest, most powerful chip then either will do.
I use an Intel desktop for my games and an AMD laptop for school and online surfing.
