How do you define beauty (both outwardly and inwardly)? Do you feel that American culture is a good reflection of beauty? When you look at your prefered magazine (Vogue, Elle, Vibe, Allure etc. ) do you feel it is a good representation of beauty? This question, of course, also has no limitations in terms of the gender or race of those answering. As always I ask that you conduct yourself in a professional manner when answering. Thank You.

I think true beauty is best defined in our subtle imperfections.
Our flaws make us unique, make us individuals, and make us human.

Robots or computer generated characters that are modeled to look human, often look creepy instead, because they lack human flaws. This science is called the "uncanny valley" where too perfect is just weird.

I think American Culture is a good reflection of beauty, because America itself is a melting pot of many cultures and races. Magazines like Vogue, Elle, etc will even have models that follow this concept, women who have a unique appearance are prized, and come from all cultures and races. Strangely colored eyes, unusual face composition etc, anything that makes you stop, study, ponder, and appreciate.

Ultimately though ,I think if you have seen a face, and can still visualize it days later in an appreciative way then you have found what is pretty to you. Beauty is like art, each face is a masterpiece but not everyone has the same taste.

I define outer beauty as someone or something you can't stop looking at because you're so amazed that it's so beautiful.I define inner beauty as a nice, funny, outgoing, won't let anything stop them. And can always brighten your day even when he or she cannot brighten their own and still wears a smile. That's a beautiful person.I can't really say that amercian culture is a good reflection of beauty because it's all lies.Everyone you see in the mags are beautiful, well some, but they make it seem like that's the only beauty and it's not.Everyone is beautiful in their own way!So until they have pics of everyone and their style which will never happen then it's not a good reflection because everyone does their own thing. Those are just SOME people, and when people see that they try to become that because they think that's what everyone else thinks is beautiful. Then they forget their own thing. But let them do as they want

Morgan .......Thank you for asking such a great question, here are my thoughts on what you asked. I think beauty can best be described as an innate and emotional perception of life's affirmative aspects, for example: Vitality , health , fertility, happiness , and goodness within objects of the perceived world. Also, in it's most profound sense, beauty engenders a sense of positive reflection on the meaning of ones soul.

Beauty, as you may know, is a COMPLETELY cultural matter. Plus, your inteligence and personality may change your perspective of beauty.
I'd difine beauty as completely relative. As the judgement you have of people AFTER you get to know them. Everything that you see at magazines, and everything, is, to me, just phisical attraction. A natural insctinct to find attractive a healthy and young person of the opposite sex, just like animals do. This two terms had been mixed up, and people now confuse them. However, this insctint can and has been modified by culture. Mostly, as you said, by american culture.
If you like this subject, and like exploring this kind of abstract concepts, specially beauty, I recommend you to read "Symposium" by Platon, a Greek philosopher. You must of heart of him. You'll LOVE it.

It's seems that the old wives tale is your answer That beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Everyone has a standard of what beauty,is or what is ugly get your dictionary out and see what it says

beauty is what you like.

satan thinks he's beautiful, but almost everybody will not agree.
TV hose think they are beautiful, but everybody knows beauty like that is high maintenance.

voge and elite, etc, are egoists, and no matter how waxed they pimp their pubic hair, they will just have an ugly pubic personality to match.

there might be beautiful inner and outer, but they wont be on TV and in magazines

BEAUTY IS ALWAYS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!
Therefore... when looking @ magazines one must understand the gender, age, race, and social status each model is trying to represent.

As in the eye of the beholder. Ugly to one person is beauty to another. What is beauty? It is something that appeal to that person sight and senses. Beauty is what the person call beautiful.

Beauty exists only in the eyes of those who appreciate it.
I mean, beauty is subjective and its appreciation varies with ones cultural background.
