i am looking to reserve a hotel room-and those words keep showing up. Does it mean that there is internet access?

the phones in hotels aren't a standard phone system so if you connect your laptop's modem to the wall jack you would not get a dial tone and it would not work. In order to use your laptop's modem there is a port on the side of the phone which emulates a standard phone jack.

Usually, that just means that there is an RJ-11 port (regular phone hookup) on the side of the telephone, so that you can plug your PCs modem cord into it rather than having to disconnect the phone from the wall plug.

This is DIAL-UP service. Look for a hotel that advertises broadband, wi-fi, high-speed internet or some similar verbage.

Most likely, yes.

That does not mean it is free though, so read the fine print.
