It should not be slow. Has it always been slow, or is this a new condition? Do you mean the computer in general or the Internet?
If it has become slow recently, try turning off the automatic Windows update, it totally made my computer come to a screeching halt. With it turned off, the computer is normal.
Good luck, you may want to provide some more detail, though.

What's the RAM on your laptop? Vista hoards a lot of RAM, 512mb for Home Basic and 1GB for Home Premium, Business and Ultimate versions. I would recommend adding more RAM.

You should give more information like your processor, RAM amount, HDD speed so we can help you. The thing is vista requires a lot of RAM and if you have Norton Antivirus suite installed it makes it more slower than usual if you don't have a good processor. That's is what i can tell you based on the information you gave to us.

Defrag and and use disk cleanup. You can also use spyware and adware removers. The last thing is add to at least 1 GB of RAM. I have a 1 GB and it works better then 512 MB I had in it.

try going into the processes and shuting down programs that you are not using. if your not sure what they do make a list of programs. and do a search for them within your pc. you'll notice you have programs taking up ram that your not even using. turn them off you'll see a major difference.

Maybe if you tell us what kind of laptop you have (specifications) we could tell you why.

If you can't figure that out, may as well make your way into the kitchen and serve me my sandwich.
