If you are not worried about losing battery life, you can just leave it plugged in as much as you need to and not worry about when it says it is fully charged. If you want to conserve your battery life, you can wait till the battery is fully charged, and then remove it, keeping the power cord plugged in. This will allow you to continue using the laptop without worrying about killing your battery.

When you buy your laptop brand new, you should charge it for 24 hours with the laptop off.
