it' is actually my room mates computer. it has 2 drives one for CDs and the other is a DVD (burner) drive...now both drives work just fine with CDs but they don't recognize DVDs at all.
if i put in a DVD...it shows either an empty folder or says that there is no disc in the drive.
is there a program i can install to make it work or what else can be the reason of the problem?

It sounds like your roommate is going to have to upgrade her DVD driver. Ask your roommate for the make and model numbers of the DVD burner/player and then go to that company's website on line (using your roommate's computer). They should have an updated driver for your roommate to download. Follow the directions for downloading and that should solve the problem. Good luck.

try a different dvd. it sounds like the disk is bad. Also try updating the driver from the instructions above.

Hi. The drive needs software to play DVDs. WinDVD and PowerDVD are two of them.
