I haven't read a book of the series but I'm sick of all the banter about it. There are so many authors out there more in "need of a read".

Quite frankly, if you haven't even read the books I think you have no right to criticize them. Don't you have a favorite book? Don't you talk about it with other people who enjoy the book? It's the same thing with Harry Potter. It's just that the HP books have a larger fan base.

And if you're ''sick of all the banter about it'' then why don't you just stop reading the stuff online? You can easily avoid the discussions by just not clicking on the links to articles.

Also- people are constantly complaining that all kids these days are doing is playing video games or watching TV. Shouldn't you be happy that kids are getting interested in books again? Who knows, perhaps the HP books are just the doorway. Perhaps all the other authors who are "in need of a read" are inside the room.

If you mean there are other authors you think deserve to be read more than JK Rowling, I think the good thing about the Harry Potter books is that they are getting people to WANT to read those other books. After Harry Potter, they might start reading other, great books, like the one I've enjoyed besides HP. There are lots of other books I love and other authors have also written books similar. Do you enjoy fantasy? Then the Harry Potter books are worth reading. They aren't that terrible, although some parts are overrated, most books that achieve that amount of popularity are doomed to be overrated. I liked being able to discuss the books with people who don't read that much though.

On the other hand, sometimes I really wonder how in the world people can manage to read so little that they consider reading books as long as HP an accomplishment...(they are long, but not THAT long) and there is seriously too much banter about it... sheesh...if such media presence was spread along literature equally...

you have an incredible element. i might say 0.5 of the human beings who communicate approximately Harry Potter followers can not study them and understand them. Or, probably have not even study a e book. in the event that they might try Harry Potter, they might truly like it. I placed off examining them for greater or less 4 years, because of the fact i assumed they have been stupid, yet whilst i in my view did study them, i became HOOKED. and particularly. Who needs to study actual stuff. there's no longer many memories available that are interesting and actual. once you study you are able to bypass everywhere. It factors a smash from actuality which for me is a sturdy factor each and every now and returned.

Harry Potter has gotten many children to read and enjoy reading more than a lot of other books. I wouldn't say something that increases literacy in today's youth is anything to be "sick" of. Sure there is a lot of hype about the whole thing, but if you're against it, don't read it. I though the whole thing was stupid, and then I had a friend make me read the books, and I ended up loving them. I read all sorts of other books, but sometimes you just want something easy and enjoyable. And maybe people getting more into reading will encourage them to pick up a book by an author you deem more in need of a read.

Yes, I too am tired of all the discussion relating to this story. And before anyone freaks on me, I read the first book and thought it was cheese. But, then again, I was an adult at the time. I really have a tough time relating to teen main characters unless it is a realistic story. It amazes me that so many adults are obsessed with this character/storyline on this website. I wish they would give a seperate category for HP so I don't have to read the questions anymore.

Extremely sick of it. How about a good recommendation for another author far more fun to read than Harry? Christopher Moore! The guy is amazing. Or DBC Pierre. Vernon God Little is a great book. Raise the bar a little bit - read some good stuff. Pax - C

Ha. I'm sick as *hell* of hearing about it. I want to yell at people to browse some children's book award websites and find books that will help teach kids about *other cultures* and *other people* and *other ideas.* But that's how pop culture works: squeeze every last drop you can out of the exact same old formulated crap (reality TV works the same way). Anyone could sit down and write a book identical to _Harry Potter_ using the same formula with different characters.

But consumer culture - getting people to buy buy buy - supports and encourages this 'crazed-fan' phenomenon.
