Have you ever seen The Ring?
I'm not usually scared by horror movies, but this one freaked me out for a couple of weeks!

Otherwise there's the classic The Exorcist.
Silent Hill was pretty scary too, and a well-made movie in any case. Hope this helps!

A film that makes you want to lock your doors is one set in a place that you can relate to. I was thinking of "The Descent" because that was well scary, but for domestic scares I'd go for the classic Halloween. None of the sequels do the job. If you just want gruesome I'd go for "Hostel" My scariest space film would be "Alien"
