Preaching hate against any group will have negative effects in the sense that it will breed more hate and put negative hostile thoughts into the minds of the youth. As we should all be aware, people respond most to what they are told when they are younger and still have little awareness about the world. They are more prone to be affected by incoming messages and thus are more vulnerable. The other important thing to remember is that many people discover their homosexuality during their adolescent years. Preaching against homosexuality will make these teenagers feel devalued and discriminated against. It can have drastic effects on their self-esteem and self-value, and completely change their perception of the world. It's when we are young that we most need love and acceptance, and it's the lack of those things that breeds hate and hostility, as well as depression and even suicidal tendencies. So yes, preaching against homosexuality can and does have negative effects on teenagers.

The consequences of this misinformation are disastrous, not only for God's gay and lesbian children, but for our entire society.

As you may know, biblical ignorance is an epidemic in the United States. A recent study quoted by Dr. Peter Gomes in The Good Book found that 38 percent of Americans polled were certain the Old Testament was written a few years after Jesus' death. Ten percent believed Joan of Arc was Noah's wife. Many even thought the epistles were the wives of the apostles.

This same kind of biblical ignorance is all too present around the topic of homosexuality. Often people who love and trust God's Word have never given careful and prayerful attention to what the Bible does or doesn't say about homosexuality.

For example, many Christians don't know that:

Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior.
The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.
Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way -- and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today.
Most people who are certain they know what the Bible says about homosexuality don't know where the verses that reference same-sex behavior can be found. They haven't read them, let alone studied them carefully. They don't know the original meaning of the words in Hebrew or Greek. And they haven't tried to understand the historical context in which those words were written. Yet the assumption that the Bible condemns homosexuality is passed down from generation to generation with very little personal study or research.

Certainly. Queer teens will feel devalued, demoralized, and ashamed of themselves, while non-Queer teens will be given a bad/intolerant influence on which to base how they treat and interact with their peers.

If you look at it from societies view point yes, many would argue that it would affect the selfesteem. However If you view it from a christian standpoint, who is deeply grounded in their faith according to the bible it is a sin, and an abomination before God, therefore the christian feels that if they can get someone who is gay to see what the bible says then they have helped in the ministry of Christ to save that person from eternal hell.

Yes. It lowers self-esteem for those who know they are gay, and can lead to suicide in extreme cases.

Why preach? They either are or aren't. ~
At worst they'll get an inferiority complex. Which still won't change anything.
