Well, there's sure a lot of conflicting stories making the rounds these days.
Maj Gen Joesph Toluto is adamant that "most people in Iraq want a free and independent country."
Personally, I would rather know just what the average Iraqi citizen feels about the radicals and their demented ideology. It strikes me rather strange that a city of an estimated 8 million people who allegedly want freedom and independence can't control a handful of terrorists hell bent on control and domination. Strange indeed.

That is what is so sad about the situation over there...we don't know what the average Iraqi thinks because we never hear from them.

If we only heard the newcasts from our local TV and Radio stations and never looked outside, we would be afraid to even breathe. I know that bad things happen, but they don't happen on my street ALL the time.

I assume that Iraq is the same...we hear all the bad news clumped together over and over and over again on an hourly basis on CNN, and the situation sounds really bad...and often there are bad things that do happen. But if all we ever heard about our city was ripped from the front pages of our newspaper, I think our cities would seem a lot worse than they really are.

I'm not saying that our troops are not being killed or that car bombs don't happen, just that we do focus on the problems instead of focusing on the positives.

there isn't really any way to know except to actually talk to ppl over there, which i can't do. however, i would guess that they were grateful at first, but now see us as occupiers. more ppl are dieing now then when saddam was in power and we really aren't helping matters.

Wow!

Because I feel that the balance will lean toward the more negative comments, I'll not want to be the one to do the asking...

They think of us as their police force, which in my opinion isn't so good. I have a few family members in Iraq, and they say that most are thankful, to a certain extent.

I think at first they thought we would 'save ' them. Now I think they want us to go home and leave them alone. They are sick of the bombs and disorder all around them.
