Eastern (Asian) Russia is heavily Asian, and Western (European) Russia is heavily white/caucasian.

Mongols, Tartars, etc, etc, that everyone mentions above are Asian bloodlines. The others are white/caucasian.

So...........my answer is Human Race and Caucasian Race
*********************************************
Some of those that have answered have forgotten the most important part of the Russian "Race" it is called the human race.
I myself am what is referred to as "white Russian" since my grandparents were from the Ukraine.

..............Definition of Race .....................
people who are believed to belong to the same genetic stock; "some biologists doubt that there are important genetic differences between races of human beings"
...............Definition of Russian Race............
Well most people seem to think that they are from the Slavic race...the very origin of caucasian comes from the meaning from the "caucus" or speaking a caucasian language or meaning people of white skin. In that respect they are caucasian.
It's like being an "American" you never know for sure about your ancestor unless someone has done your geneology.
...............Slavic race...........................
The Slavics belong to the Indo-European family. So, basically, they are as «Aryan» as the Germans or the Greeks. Slavonic is therefore a branch of the Indo-European tree, and not partially arab or mongolian.

Conversely, in some languages there is a clear distinction between the two words ("Russia" and the ancient "Rus"). For example:
Polish: Białoruś (White Rus), but Rosja (Russia);
Ukrainian: Білорусь Bilorus (White Rus), but Росія Rosia (Russia);
German before 1945: Weißruthenien (White Ruthenia), but Russland (Russia).
An example of the use of this word in present day can be found in the German Embassy website of Australia, acknowledging both "White Russia" and Belarus as the same country.

Many explanations have been offered for the origins of the name "White Russians", but the most popular is the fair complexion of the people. However, during the 14th century the name Belaya Rus ("White Russia") was given to the Western lands of Russia as an expression of their freedom from foreign domination. In those days the word "white" implied "free" and "unconquered". Sadly, the history of these people (also known as Belorussians) since that time tells a different story. They are a people who have suffered greatly at the hands of foreign occupants. The latest occasion was during World War II when they were invaded by Germany. One out of every four White Russians was killed.

I'm Russian/Ukrainian and do not consider myself 'white'. When people ask my race I tell them that I am Western European or Eurasian (I also have a little Asian in me..)
