Im using headset that has the mic with it.

1. Make sure the plugs are in the correct position of the sound card.

2. Check your volume settings. The sound can be balanced to one side or the other.
That is checked under start -> program files -> accessories -> entertainment -> volume control. The balance should be in the middle.

Click the volume icon twice (in the taskbar next to the clock) and set all balance meters into the middle.

Maybe it's not the headphones. Maybe it's what the headphones are plugged into.
